The 79th Annual Sturgis Rally is just around the corner, so grab your chaps and load up the hog because it’s rally time! As usual, there are a full slate of kick-ass entertainment, life-altering rides, and divorce-causing debauchery to be had out there in the Black Hills of South Dakota for the half-million bikers who are set to descend on the state’s most notorious town. This year the rally gets underway August 2 and runs until the gas pumps go dry on August 11, so if you haven’t got your tickets yet, you may be SOL… But here’s the scoop anyway.
Headlining the concerts this year includes country legend Keith Urban; rap megastar Snoop Dog; hair bands Jackyl, Skid Row, and Brett Michaels; and a slough of musicians all the way down to Saliva, Godsmack, and Tech N9ne can be witnessed first-hand at venues around town. There’s plenty of other major bands on the calendar—250 bands in 10 days, to be exact—so check the dates and dress accordingly. No wearing red bandanas at the Snoop concert, folks!

As usual the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground will host the best-of-the-best events including many of the main concerts, but this center for motorcycle mayhem also boasts babes, booze, and bikes like nothing most mortals have ever witnessed with their own eyes. It kicks off with the Bikini Beach Pre-party, then Hank Rotten Jr. makes his annual appearance with a litany of sacreligious comedy, the Girls of Flaunt burlesque show will make the big belly crew blush, the Hunks show up a few nights later to get the women worked up, before Godsmack starts the world’s largest mosh pit.
There’s motorcycle racing too, with American Flat Track making its annual appearance on Sunday, August 4, keeping the tradition of dirt tracking alive and well at Sturgis. Heck, even the Doggfather chose the Chip to make his Sturgis debut on Wednesday, August 7. So bring the goods and fill your cup because we suspect there’s going to be more than a few gallons of gin and juice flowing on that fine day.
Full Throttle Saloon is not willing to be outdone by their crosstown cohorts thanks to an event calendar that includes The Lacs, Brett Michaels, Tech N9ne, and Jackyl, as well as the requisite Biker Games, the Wall of Death, Oil Wrestling, and the annual Pappy Hoel Memorial Ride. Of course, not every event has to do with sweat, blood, or rock and roll.
The annual Veterans Appreciation Day will take place Tuesday, August 6, on Main Street where the mayor will take the opportunity to honor local veterans, attending vets, and fallen vets who have made it possible for us to hold kick-ass biker rallies in the greatest biker town within the badass nation we like to call America. If you don’t like the sound of this annual shindig, you better check your pulse. If you regret not going, then hop on your bike and ride there. You’ll figure the rest out when you get there. Or just plan to come next year because it just keeps getting better and better all the time.
