Can-Am announced this week that its new Pulse and Origin electric motorcycles have both officially been selected for the illustrious iF Design Award. This award is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the industry, a tradition that began in 1953 shortly after the Second World War.
This year’s iF design contest included a whopping 11,000 submissions from over 60 countries. A panel of 131 jurors rated each submission on five different metrics (idea, differentiation, form, function, and sustainability), and of those 11,000, both of Can-Am’s new motorcycles were chosen to be among the year’s winners.
The iF Design program takes its jurors very seriously. Previous panel members have included design legends like Dieter Rams, whose work inspired the original iPod, and Kenji Ekuan, the man responsible for the Kikkoman soy sauce bottle as well as the original Yamaha VMAX motorcycle.

After attending the launch of Can-Am’s new electric motorcycles last year, we can’t say we’re surprised to see them earning accolades for design. The BRP team went all in on innovative features like a two-way throttle, a sealed chaincase swingarm, and a completely frameless design that utilizes the battery itself as the core chassis.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the iF Design Award,” said Denys Lapointe, chief design officer at BRP. “I want to acknowledge the work of the passionate team who designed these motorcycles, reaffirming once again BRP’s commitment to developing products that shift the paradigm.
“The Can-Am Pulse and Can-Am Origin redefine electric motorcycle riding. They have distinct personalities, but have one major thing in common: they blend iconic style with forward-thinking technology, providing people with unparalleled riding experiences.”
Other notable winners from this year’s show include Alpinestars’ Tech-Air Off-Road airbag, CFMoto’s new City Play motorcycle, Ducati’s new Panigale V4, and a nacho-cheese-flavored liquor by Doritos. Yes, that’s a thing, and yes, I guess we’d like to try it ourselves.
The award should serve as a validation of Can-Am’s innovative designs, which have undoubtedly raised the bar for electric two-wheelers. Both the Origin and Pulse are trickling into dealerships this month with a starting MSRP of $14,499 and $13,999, respectively.
