2020 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard Preview

Harley-Davidson has announced a mid-year addition to it’s 2020 lineup with the Softail Standard, a Milwaukee-Eight 107-powered bobber-ish platform starting at $13,599.

The Vivid Black colorway will be the only color option available at release. H-D opting to take a more minimal approach to the aesthetics of the machine in order to highlight its potential as a “blank canvas” for riders with an itch to customize.

It’s packing 1,746cc V-twin inside the steel tube frame, has a 49mm dual-bending valve fork with dual rate spring and a coilover monoshock with preload adjustment. Chrome steel laced wheels are 19 inches in the front and 16 inches at the rear. ABS is optional and the bike weighs out at 655 pounds, ready to ride.

Harley has opted to give the Softail Standard a bit of bobber style with the solo seat, hiding the rear suspension unit beneath the perch. Riders can simply remove the seat to access preload adjustment.

It’s fit and finish are heightened by polished chrome 2-into-2 exhaust, mini-ape handlebars, headlight bezel, rocker, primary, and timer covers.

Additionally, Harley is offering lots of upgrade parts. You can mix and match to your heart’s delight or opt for one of the custom packages to achieve the look you want. The Day Tripper Custom Package ($1,409.95) includes a pillion, 21-inch sissy bar with pad, passenger footpegs and mounts, black leather single-sided swingarm bag, and forward foot controls.

The Touring Custom Package ($1,699.95) includes a Sundowner two-up seat and passenger footpegs, Detachables saddlebags, a 14.5-inch sissy bar with back pad, and a 14-inch light smoke removable windscreen.

There’s also the Coastal Custom Package ($1,599.95) that comes with a Softail Quarter Fairing, black anodized aluminum Moto Bar handlebar, 5.5-inch riser, Bevel two-up seat, and passenger footpegs.

Or there’s the Performance Custom Package ($1,299.95) that improves throttle and midrange performance with a Screamin’ Eagle Stage II Torque kit and Screamin’ Eagle Pro Street Tuner. There’s also a Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather Performance Air Cleaner and Street Cannon Mufflers for an improved exhaust note.
