BMW gave its top-tier roadster a makeover for 2020, creating its most powerful twin-cylinder naked bike yet, the R 1250 R. The ShiftCam-equipped boxer mill produces a claimed 136 hp and 105 pound-feet of torque, so it’s no wonder the same package also powers the broader fleet of BMW motorcycles, namely the R 1250 RS, R 1250 RT, R 1250 GS/A, and R 1250 GS. The R 1250 R’s shaft final drive is unique within the large-bore streetfighter segment, while available Dynamic ESA semi-active suspension ensures motorcyclists of different sizes and two-wheel experience are able to enjoy a balanced, composed, and predictable ride.
Included among the suite of standard electronic aids are Rain and Road ride modes, Hill Start Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Automatic Stability Control, and antilock braking all centered around a 6.5-inch TFT display. Beyond its performance chops, the R 1250 R benefits from a high level of fit and finish, giving the bike a commanding presence. The 2020 R 1250 R is available in four colors: Black Storm Metallic, Pollux Metallic Matte, Light White/Racing Blue Metallic/Racing Red, or Option 719 Sparkling Bronze Metallic.
