If you’d have bet us three years ago that the Pan America would one day appear in Harley’s CVO series, we’d have put all our chips in against that wager. And we’d have lost our shirt, because H-D’s very first adventure bike has just made the CVO cut for 2024. Say hello to the 2024 CVO Pan America, the first dirtworthy model to appear in the exclusive Custom Vehicle Operations lineup, which is better known for its showstopping finishes, one-off components, and obsessive attention to detail.
But here we are: H-D’s very first adventure bike is now the firm’s first CVO-themed adventure-tourer. We say “CVO-themed” because it seems the Pan Am is somewhat going off book on this one, eschewing the usual technological upgrades, engine revisions, and a paint job encrusted with semi-precious gemstones (kidding about the last one). Really, what you’re getting is basically the Pan America 1250 Special, though we will admit there are hints of flashy, CVO-appropriate paint.
But let’s back up to what already comes on the stock Pan America 1250 Special. That machine rolls with the 150 hp Revolution Max 1250 engine with VVT that’s packed into a steel trellis frame with a one-piece cast aluminum swingarm. Other goodies include a 47mm inverted fork with electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension, a 6.8-inch touchscreen display with multiple ride modes and a whole raft of electronic rider aids like cornering ABS, traction control, vehicle hold lift mitigation, and more.
To this the CVO version plucks parts and accessories from H-D’s vast trove of add-ons, and the CVO Pan America is optioned to the moon, most notably with the excellent Adaptive Ride Height suspension which lowers the seat height when stopped, a Screamin’ Eagle quickshifter for clutchless shifts, a trio of SW-Motech-designed aluminum cases, an aluminum skid plate, and extra lighting. It also rolls on tubeless laced wheels (optional on the standard model), and an Advanced Daymaker Adaptive LED headlight uses the IMU to determine lean angle.
But to really fit in among its flashy stablemates, Pan America had to get some sort of visual pop. We’re talking mostly cosmetics here with color-matched (yet contrasting) red crashbars and subframe, with the same hues carrying over to the saddle.
Again, this Pan America is a CVO, and Harley is also touting 2024 as the 25th anniversary of Custom Vehicle Operations so the bike gets CVO 25th Anniversary graphics on top of the outer fairing and the console insert to go along with a small CVO graphic on each case. And let’s not forget the Legendary Orange with Raven Metallic and Atlas Silver paint on the fuel tank and fairing.
So does any of that careful attention to visual detail make a difference out on a dusty trail? Hit the comments below and let us know.
The bikes will be available at dealers this month, with an MSRP listed as $28,399.
