The BMW Motorrad Concept F 450 GS is a bold production-ready prototype that brings a fresh perspective to the lightweight adventure motorcycle segment as shown during the 2024 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy. With roots in the iconic GS lineup, this concept bike is designed to appeal to both new and experienced riders who seek a compact, versatile ADV.

The F 450 GS concept boasts a modern build, cued stylistically off the top dog of them all: the 2024 R 1300 GS. Contrary to the big GS, however, it features a svelte design making it perfect for exploring off-road trails while still being agile enough for urban commuting. The F 450 features a sleek, minimalistic frame with sharp lines and an aggressive stance, signaling its dual purpose for rugged terrain and city streets alike.

The F 450 GS is positioned between the single-cylinder-powered G 310 and the recently overhauled twin-cylinder F 900 GS.BMW

“The BMW Concept F 450 GS carries the characteristic DNA of the GS family,” says Alexander Buckan, head of BMW Motorrad Design. “We have succeeded in designing the Concept with the sporty dynamic appeal of our large off-road icon in a particularly compact form.”

Positioned above the existing $6,000-or-so and single-cylinder-powered G 310 GS and the updated-for-2024 and twin-cylinder F 900 GS (nearly $20,000), the F 450 is a liquid-cooled parallel twin that’s said to produce 48 hp. The powertrain will feature a fresh architecture and design.

“What was particularly important to us in the development of the new BMW Concept F 450 GS was to achieve the best handling for this segment and combine it with strong performance and optimal accessibility. The riding pleasure on-road and off-road is a top priority for this A2 BMW GS,” says Sepp Mächler, product manager.

This motorcycle rolls on a steel trellis frame with an inverted fork and a direct-mount shock on 19/17-inch wheels in typical BMW GS spirit. It’s said to weigh 386 pounds. No word on official MSRP, technical specifications, or availability, however BMW Motorrad expects this vehicle to be in production next year.
