AGV's new AX9 helmet is now available in North America, completing the brand's touring line alongside the previously released Sportmodular.
The AX9 is geared to the more adventurous touring riders than the Sportmodular, with its removable visor, MX-style chin bar, and ability to accommodate goggles if you want to leave the ultra-wide face shield at home. It’s a versatile piece that will meet the needs of a number of different types of riders.
It’s constructed from a lightweight carbon, aramid, and fiberglass blend, resulting in a lid that tips scales at 3.5 pounds according to AGV press material. That number will change slightly depending on the size however.
Inside are antibacterial and moisture-wicking Ritmo cheek pads and the crown liner is a Shalimar material with antibacterial and moisture-wicking properties as well. There’s a Shalimar and Nubuck neck roll that’s water resistant too. The interior is designed to fit communication systems easily and has cutouts for riders who wear glasses on the road.
Riders can adjust airflow with five vents; one adjustable on the chin, two inlets on the brow, and two exhaust ports out back.
AGV highlights the visor, in particular, because it affords a broad field of vision. The Italian brand asserts 190 degrees horizontal and 110 degrees vertical when it comes to field of view.
Executive Vice President of Dainese & AGV North America Roberto Sadowsky provided these remarks in a company release:
“We’re extremely proud of how far innovation has come with the AX9’s interchangeable features, comfort, and safety. With the combination of the Sportmodular and AX9, AGV now offers two flagship, game-changing helmets that meet different needs for touring and adventure enthusiasts.”
AGV offers seven design configurations currently, starting at $499. AGV recommends pairing the new AX9 with some of Dainese's new Explorer gear (check out this earlier write-up from Intermot to see what the Explorer line is all about).
