Dainese And AGV First Looks From INTERMOT 2018

New Explorer adventure line, D-Air updates and the new AGV AX9

Dainese dropped some interesting new product at this year's INTERMOT show in Cologne. The first being the Explorer range of touring and adventure gear, with the flagship Antarctica suit packing some serious amenities thanks to some extensive R&D. There are also a new product range with integrated D-Air technology plus a fresh AGV helmet, the AX9, for touring and adventure riders.

Explorer

The Italian brand touts its new Explorer line as ready for the most extreme weather conditions on the planet. Sure, that could just be some slick PR speak, but the tech and design of the new Explorer pieces come as a result of work Dainese has done with MIT, developing garments for astronauts. Seems there could be more meat there than an updated liner system.

A key element Dainese cites coming from this collaboration is more study of the lines of non-extension, essentially a myriad of lines across a human body that neither stretch nor contract during regular movement. These insights have allowed Dainese to create more ergonomically correct garments with better fit and feel.

The highlight though is the Antarctica. This Gore-Tex laminated kit makes use of highly abrasion-resistant nylon and a patented Trixior D-Tec Engineered Textile material in impact areas. It’s EN 17902 certified for safety and the jacket has a 2-in-1 removable goose down liner (700 fill), a removable thermal and storm-guard collar, neoprene wrist closures, a FastFit lumbar belt, external waterproof pockets, and a waterproof cargo pocket around back. There are pockets for a double chest protector if you want to upgrade, but it comes with a CE Level 2 Pro Armor back protector and composite armor in the elbows and shoulders. With the corresponding pants, you’re likely to be set for some pretty cold climates.

There are other jacket/pant pairings available too, such as the Gran Turismo Gore-Tex, D-Explorer Gore-Tex, Dolomiti Gore-Tex, and numerous others going down the price and sophistication scale. There are also rainsuits and travel accessories like luggage and covers. This is a complete line of gear for riders of just about any type, so keep your eyes peeled for features on these pieces and more in the coming months.

Integrated D-Air Products

Dainese expands its selection of D-Air integrated products to include both track and street gear, including two-piece and one-piece suits along with a number of leather jackets. The two-piece suit integration is part of the big news in this area, alongside the inclusion of D-Air protection designed for women.

AGV AX9

Last year the AGV Sportmodular turned more than just a few heads, and AGV looks to get a similar response from the adventure-styled AX9. It's a carbon-aramid-fiberglass blend shell that comes packing an adjustable peak, perfect for keeping the rain and off-road debris from your face shield. It's adventure/MX styled but has a Max Pinlock system included, a feature borrowed from AGV's touring line of lids. It's positioned as a complement to the Explorer line, rounding out Dainese's impressive expansion into the adventure and adventure-touring segment.
