Yamaha unveiled a new leaning multi-wheel vehicle at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The Tricity 300 will join the Niken and Tricity 125 in Yamaha's lineup of LMW machines in Europe next year, however, details are sparse as to whether the 300 will be available to American consumers. More information will come during this year's EICMA show in early November.
Yamaha made its intentions regarding a three-wheel scooter known earlier this year, filing a patent for a 3CT in April in Europe and prior to that, during last year's EICMA show, showcasing its prototype.
We know that it will employ Yamaha’s Leaning Multi-Wheeler linkage and will be equipped with a Bluecore engine. Bluecore is a lightweight and fuel efficient engine initiative from Yamaha that seeks to provide environmentally friendly engines that don’t suffer from excessive performance loss.
Yamaha is also stating that the Tricity 300 can be utilized by riders with B class licenses in Europe, which will open the door to more potential riders since they won’t need full A class motorcycle licenses to pilot the machine.
Beyond that, we know that color options will be either Tech Kamo, Nimbus Gray, or Matte Gray.
This does mark the expansion of Yamaha’s urban mobility segment though, and shows a broadening focus on commuters in congested markets. Many companies are following this trend, and there’s no doubt that the looks and performance of the Tricity 300 will make this a stand-out option among the growing class of urban commuter vehicles.
