European scooter riders will have a few new Yamaha TMAX scooters to consider in 2020. The Japanese brand unveiled its new TMAX 560 and TMAX Tech MAX during the EICMA show in Milan, hailing them as stronger, better-handling, and more rider-friendly versions of its popular maxi scooter.

2020 Yamaha TMAX 560 Updates

The key to the 560's improved power is a new 562cc twin-cylinder engine, which provides 3.5-percent more horsepower and 6-percent more torque than last year's model. Yamaha increased bore by 2mm to get the extra capacity, and added new aluminum-forged pistons and con rods.

To achieve Euro-5 compliance, the 560 has revised intake and exhaust valve timing and larger 27mm inlet valves. The new 12-hole injector feeds fuel from a position beneath the inlet tract to enhance combustion efficiency. Once the fuel is spent, emissions flow through a revised 2-into-1 upswept exhaust system with front and rear catalytic converters. Yamaha also utilized human sensory testing to make the exhaust note and engine sound more pleasing and harmonious. The mill is a stressed member of the twin spar, die cast frame and is designed to sit low in the machine to allow for more storage capacity and optimized handling.

Yamaha’s CVT got some attention, featuring a new belt and revised automatic shifting operation to give the 560 a higher, smoother top-end and better acceleration. Other mechanical updates include an updated cooling system, larger radiator, new air ducts, higher strength exhaust pipe, and low-noise resin chain tensioner.

The 560 utilizes motorcycle-type suspension to soak up bumps, a 41mm fork and link-type Monocross rear shock.

Additionally, Yamaha have updated the look of the TMAX with updated body panels to achieve a sportier look. New LED indicators and rear light contribute to the revised aesthetic.

In terms of electronics, the 560 gets a revised traction control system. It’s also equipped with a two-level Yamaha D-Mode system, allowing the rider to select between full power and more moderate power settings. The Smart Key keyless system starts the ignition, locks the seat and other compartments, and also releases the center stand lock.
