Triumph Tiger 800 And Tiger 1000 Spied Testing

Triumph is gearing up for the 2020 model year with a new addition to its adventure line. Spy shots reveal a Tiger model, an apparent update to the existing Tiger 800.

The Tiger 800 looks to be production-ready, and reveals a number of revisions. The larger looking front wheel indicates this to be an XC with a revised beak, headlight, and windscreen. Moving further back on the bike, the shrouds on the side appear to be new, as does the shape of the header pipes. There’s a new skid plate on there as well. Triumph looks to be utilizing a redesigned main frame and bolt-on subframe and a newly designed swingarm. The fork appears to be Öhlins kit, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Öhlins was utilized at the rear as well. The instrument display also looks to be new.

We can also see the radiator has been split into two halves, no doubt to improve cooling effectiveness.

Triumph redesigned the Tiger 800 XC for the 2018 model year, so perhaps this is a new, possibly more off-road-capable addition to the family.

Changes to the engine are likely to be coming as well, to help the machine meet Euro 5 standards without sacrificing too much in terms of performance. That is also likely to include changes to the suite of rider aids and electronics.

These changes appear to be in place for a reported Tiger 1000, which was also spied testing. This machine appears to be in an earlier stage of development than the 800, owing to the propensity of wires and aluminum mounting blocks for test equipment clearly visible. If this Tiger does eventually release near the 1,000cc mark, it would be a much more direct competitor with bikes like Honda’s Africa Twin.
