Overview

The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 650 series continues to be a solid choice for riders seeking a middleweight adventure bike that offers a balance of on-road comfort and off-road capability at entry-level prices. The 2024 lineup has not changed from the previous year, except for color choices, and includes the base V-Strom 650, the more off-road-focused 650XT, and the adventure-touring-accessorized 650XT Adventure.

After the introduction of the larger V-Strom 1000 in 2002, Suzuki followed up with the V-Strom 650 in 2004, naturally expanding the range. A 2011 redesign improved its appeal by increasing fuel tank capacity, extending range, and boosting ground clearance. However, it wasn’t until 2015, with the introduction of the V-Strom 650XT, that Suzuki truly tapped into the “adventure” aspect of the bike by adding wire-spoke wheels and a distinctive “beak” at the front. The bike was then further updated in 2017, remaining the same since.

Powering all three 2024 models is the reliable 645cc V-twin engine, known for its smooth power delivery and versatility across a wide range of riding conditions and 19-inch front/17-inch rear wheel setup. Cycle World’s Dynojet 250i dynamometer measured a peak 66.85 hp at 9,210 rpm and 43.04 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,560. The V-Strom 650XT is upgraded with spoked wheels, hand guards, and an engine protector to the base model, making it a better fit for riders who regularly venture onto dirt roads. The 650XT Adventure comes with additional touring accessories—37L quick-release aluminum panniers, accessory bar, handlebar cross-brace, and mirror extensions—making it ready for long-distance journeys from the factory.

All models in the V-Strom 650 series feature Suzuki’s three-setting traction control system, ABS, and upright ergonomics, making them suitable for both daily commuting and extended touring. With a reputation for reliability and strong aftermarket support, the V-Strom 650 series continues to be a top choice for adventure riders worldwide.
