The 2020 MotoGP motorcycle racing season took another hit today as the race series’ governing body announced that Austin, Texas’ Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas will be postponed.

After the cancellation of the opening round in Qatar last weekend, Circuit of The Americas was supposed to be the opening round in this year’s calendar. However, recent events including the city of Austin announcing the ban of public gatherings in excess of 2,500 people (unless organizers can assure Austin Public Health that mitigation plans for infectious diseases are in place) has forced organizers to postpone North America’s sole MotoGP round.

“We are glad that there are no cases of the virus in Austin and recognize that the risks of getting sick are very low, however, an international event of this sort presents logistics concerns, travel commitments, and significant advance planning,” wrote Circuit of The Americas on Twitter.

The Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas will be rescheduled from the weekend of April 3 to the weekend of November 15. This pushes back the final round at Valencia, Spain, to the weekend of November 20.

“All tickets purchased will be valid for the November event,” COTA said in the same Tweet.

“While we greatly appreciate the ongoing support and patronage of the fans we recognize that some ticket holders may need a refund. COTA will honor any such request.”
