2021 Polaris Slingshot First Look Preview

The 2021 Polaris Slingshot is getting a closetful of new parts on the heels of the substantial redesign it got ahead of 2020. The biggest change is a set of paddle shifters and a hill-hold device for the three-wheeler’s optional AutoDrive transmission. The automated ‘box was introduced last year, but the paddles are a huge upgrade.

They’re also adding the range-topping R Limited Edition trim package, which comes with Polaris’ new Rockford Fosgate stereo, Apple CarPlay, navigation, hill hold assist, and lighter aluminum wheels. Like all Slingshots, the R Limited Edition can be had with either a manual transmission or the AutoDrive with paddle shifters.

Polaris is also switching colors and offering what it says is its longest list of accessories ever. It’s dividing the changes into three categories: The Drive, The Style, and The Sound.

The paddles aren’t the only enhancements to the AutoDrive trans. Polaris says it has retuned the ECU to make the shifts quicker, more consistent, and smoother in either drive mode. Those changes are also available as an upgrade to the 2020 machines.

For those looking to daily drive their Slingshot or outfit it for longer trips, Polaris is offering new trim packages it’s calling Excursion Series and Drive Series. The Excursion package includes Polaris-branded bags, and taller wind deflector, the Slingshade, and heated and cooled seats. The Drive package adds the paddle shifters and a dead pedal for AutoDrive-equipped Slingshots, heated and cooled seats and the option for people who buy the S and SL versions to have Polaris add 15 percent more power with the Stage One tune.

Inside, Polaris has given the 2021 Slingshot a Rockford Fosgate 100-watt stereo that is available with Apple CarPlay. It will also sell you an upgraded roll hoop packing more speakers.

Finally, for those who want a blank canvas to customize, Polaris is now offering an S model, which starts just below $20,000 for the manual version. It can be had with either transmission, and can easily be upgraded to the Rockford Fosgate sound system.

Prices start at $19,999 for the S model in White Lightning, and run to $34,799 for the R Limited Edition with AutoDrive. The whole range is on its way to dealers as you read this.
