KTM has announced its 690 SMC R and 690 Enduro R motorcycles will arrive in dealerships this December. There’s no official word on price in the news, but last year both machines carried an MSRP of $11,899. With only some aesthetic updates made for the coming year, we’d expect to see pricing stay pretty much the same.
Even though these bikes remain relatively unchanged from 2020, they’re still fairly fresh. They got a revamp in 2019 with revised LC4 single-cylinder engines, updated suspension components, and electronics updates including quickshifters and two ride modes. Among the changes, the major difference is WP Apex suspension on the SMC R and WP Xplor suspension on the Enduro R. Of course, by design and name it’s clear that one is primed for revelry on the asphalt and the other is the weapon of choice for riders who want to cut a new trail.

Both bikes have cornering ABS and traction control as well. Optional upgrades include Offroad ABS for the Enduro and Supermoto ABS for the SMC. KTM also has a whole roster of accessory add-ons, including crash protection, Akrapovič exhaust canisters, handlebars, and more.
The 692.7cc single that powers these motorcycles is punchy on the low-end, but fully capable of catching triple-digit speed at the top-end. Dual balancing shafts help reduce vibrations from the big single, and ride by wire ensures smooth power delivery whenever you crack the throttle. Regardless of your preference, you’re going to find a way to have fun on either one of these machines.
