Husqvarna continues to offer motorcyclists a purpose-built competition-spec supermoto in the form of its 2021 Husqvarna FS 450 ($11,299). The FS 450 shares the same architecture as KTM’s recently announced SMR 450 (read about it in the 2021 KTM 450 SMR Supermoto First Look Preview). For the 2021 model year, the FS 450 employs a few chassis improvements to increase agility and make for better rider control.
Editor’s Note: We test rode the FS 450 at Adams Kart Track in Southern California. Read about its performance capability in the 2019 Husqvarna FS 450 Supermoto First Ride Review.

Up front, a larger-diameter (22mm) axle was fitted and fork offset was reduced 7mm. These changes also shortened the wheelbase slightly. Husqvarna says this elevates the already nimble handling of the 232-pound FS 450. Front suspension uses a WP Xact air fork that has virtually infinite adjustability based on rider weight. The damping settings were tweaked for “consistent fork performance,” says Husqvarna.
At the rear, the linkage-equipped rear suspension benefits from low-friction seals, which reduce stiction and allow for better movement over bumps. The OE shock setting was also modified to boost traction off turns. Lastly, a new and more grippy seat cover was installed to help hold the rider in place during acceleration.
The FS 450 continues to be powered by a liquid-cooled 450cc single that benefits from both fuel injection and electric start. Engine architecture is shared between KTM and Husqvarna’s 450cc Supercross/motocross competition engine that it claims puts out 63 hp. However, based on our experience, the engine is good for around 52 ponies at the back tire. Husqvarna also offers a rudimentary style two-way-adjustable (plus “off”) traction control that retards ignition timing when a certain threshold is met. However it is more a gimmick than an actual tool to set fast laps in professional riders' hands.
The engine puts power back to the 17-inch spoked Alpina wheel through a five-speed gearbox and Magura hydraulic clutch. Contrary to other motorcycles, at the front the FS 450 uses a 16.5-inch-diameter spoked rim shod with Bridgestone supermoto-specific racing slicks.
MSRP is unchanged since 2019, and the 2021 FS 450 is priced at $11,299.
