In late 2018, Ducati made its entry into the ebicycle world with the debut of its MIG-RR, and in 2021, it will expand its presence in the category with the new TK-01RR e-enduro. This bike, like the MIG before it, is a collaborative effort between Ducati and Thok E-bikes. This trail-ripper will price at $7,995.
It is equipped with a Shimano EP8 drive unit that weighs a slight 5.7 pounds and provides a remarkable 62 pound-feet of torque. It’s combined with the Shimano E-tube Project app so you can calibrate the motor’s character to suit your needs, say, if that much pull wasn’t necessary. Acceleration and assistance timing is also adjustable via the smartphone app.
It utilizes a new Thok 6061-T4 and -T6 aluminum frame with a vertical-ish downtube, which also holds the 630Wh Shimano battery. This setup ensures a low center of gravity and optimal handling. The geometry of the bike is aimed at extreme enduro riders, with a steep 64.5-degree head angle, elongated tube top, and 75.5-degree vertical seat tube. A 1.8-inch tapered standard headtube provides added stiffness, which will be a boon to riders facing difficult terrain at high speeds.
Additional top-end elements include 12-speed gearing and Shimano XT brakes, which utilize four-piston calipers and 203mm front and rear rotors with “Ice Technologies,” which aids in cooling during heavy brake application. An Öhlins RXF38 Air TTX 18 fork is compression and rebound adjustable while a fully adjustable Öhlins TTX Air shock handles suspension duties for the rear. Crankbrothers aluminum wheels are wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion E-MTB S tires, 29 inches at the front and 27.5 inches at the rear. Quite the package for riders serious about enduro cycling.
