As a labor of love between Portland, Oregon-based women’s workwear company Dovetail Workwear and engines-and-coffee retail/café See See Motor Coffee comes the women’s Effie Moto Pant.
Let’s begin by starting with the name of the pant because it was inspired by a significant woman in female riding history: On May 2, 1915, aboard a Harley-Davidson Effie Hotchkiss, along with her mother Avis in the sidecar, went on a grand motorcycle tour—a round trip from Brooklyn, New York, to San Francisco, California—which made her and her mother the first women to ride a motorcycle across the US. An impressive backstory that is likely causing you to daydream about your next road trip. That story is now in the back of my mind whenever I don these Effie Moto Pants.

Now onto the review.
These pants have a stylish industrial look. The black denim with Dovetail-embossed rivets result in a very casual working woman’s moto pant. A “Get Dirty” print on the inside of the zipper fabric adds a coquettish touch too.
At first I was concerned with the lower thigh rivets having the potential to scratch my motorcycle’s tank, but unless you are gripping the tank tightly with your thighs you most likely won’t have a problem. I rode a KTM 390 Duke, Yamaha MT-03, and Honda Rebel 500 and did not see the rivets scrape.
Flush with the rest of the material are D3O-compatible pockets at the knees along with seven other pockets available throughout. And let me tell you, all of the pockets are nice and deep, offering plentiful storage options.
The Effie Moto Pant is made of rash-resistant Dyneema fabric—which is claimed to be 15 times stronger than steel and is the fabric of choice for tsunami barriers and slings for floating wind power farms. While a crash test was not performed to find out the durability of the material, it is also claimed to have a four-second slide time. A Kevlar lining is nonexistent on the pant, but it does come with D3O impact armor that slides into those knee pockets I mentioned earlier.
Putting on these moto pants is like slipping into your favorite pair of street jeans and can conveniently serve as both with their form-fitting, stylish design. You could remove the D3O armor and no one would be the wiser. The Effie jeans hug every line comfortably, and have a leg length that hit my 32-inch inseam nicely while still providing a range of motion for the ride. Although the inside of the material was slightly itchy at first, more wear and break-in has caused that flaw to diminish.

With D3O armor included, the price of these pants is a reasonable $229. They come in sizes 00–18 (with an inseam length of 31 inches) and are available for pre-order via seeseemotorcycles.com.
Overall, the Dovetail Workwear and See See Motor Coffee teams have designed a casual, comfortable, and reasonably affordable women’s riding jean that may inspire you to want to go on your own motorcycle adventures across the country or simply across town.
