Vespa goes electric with its Elettrica scooter—a timeless design with a modern twist. Charge up its lithium-ion battery in a claimed four hours (with a 220V power source) and be ready for a trip around town. Being electric it requires virtually no engine maintenance, so there’s less time in the garage or shop and more time flicking through traffic. Since it is based on the compact Primavera platform this escoot can get you in and out of traffic with ease. Behind the bars, modern technology continues with its 4.3-inch full-color TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity.
The concept of the electric Vespa was originally unveiled at EICMA in 2016 and the Italian scooter manufacturer officially started production for the 2019 model. When test rider Bruno dePrato rode the 2019 model he stated, “Riding the Elettrica is even easier and more instinctive than riding any other Vespa. All the rider needs to do is select the power mode (Full or Eco) and the intensity of the energy recovery and consequent braking effect, when decelerating (Stage 1 or 2)… In real life, it turns out to be extremely functional and practical, so very easy and safe, and even fun, if you want.”
Following closely on the heels of the original 45kWh version comes the more powerful 70kWh Elettrica that is new for the 2020 model year. The Elettrica 70 kWh stands out with red accents on the front shock and power unit cover and Elettrica plate.
