The Ducati Diavel challenges traditionally held assumptions of what constitutes a cruiser-style motorcycle, and the 2020 XDiavel (and even more well-appointed XDiavel S) pushes the boundaries even further. The latter, in fact, allows for an impressive 40 degrees of lean and comes equipped standard with Ducati Power Launch, Bosch cornering antilock braking, Ride Modes, Ducati Traction Control, and a Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit to ensure accurate data is provided to all of the electronics systems.
The XDiavel spec sheet reads like that of a racetrack-ready sportbike—perhaps a Panigale V4?—with its slipper clutch, Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires, dual radial-mount Brembo Monoblock front brake calipers, and adjustable front and rear suspension. And yet, its liquid-cooled Testastretta engine pulls like a freight train from the first twist of the throttle while the forward foot controls and low-slung seat put cruiser riders into a familiar riding position.
"The XDiavel performs," testers declared in 2016 when they first got their hands on a bike. "For its geometry numbers, it has shockingly light handling, a hugely tall rev range, and miles of horsepower on top of piles of torque. It has serious performance."
