You want to go touring without remortgaging the farm to buy some Trump Tower on wheels? Meet the Softail Heritage Classic. It lives near the top of the Softail lineup, but is bargain-priced compared to most of Harley’s Touring lineup. The Heritage Classic blends timeless Harley-Davidson “touring” styling together with the latest Softail engineering, including a new frame, upgraded suspension, and Milwaukee-Eight power. Vintage it may look, but the Heritage Classic proves Harley is serious about moving forward while honoring its past.
Like a limited few other Softail models, the Heritage Classic is available in both 107ci and 114ci V-twin formats. When the horizon’s as far away as it looks, standard cruise control, an old-school windshield (quickly detachable at the owner’s preference), and broad floorboards improve rider comfort significantly. We appreciate Harley’s commitment to using bright LED headlights, a trio of which are standard on the Heritage Classic. Also standard are lockable side bags (molded to mimic natural leather) and a security system, which adds peace of mind when you’re staying at Rogue’s Junction and not the Ritz-Carlton.
Likes: Bridges the gap between cruiser and tourer.
Dislikes: Apehanger-style handlebar isn't ideal for touring.
Verdict: Price and features combine to create a unique and affordable "touring cruiser."
