2018 Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special

La grande Scrambler.

2018 Ducati Scrambler 1100 SpecialCRS

Ducati’s largest Scrambler displaces 1,079cc and is available in three closely related configurations, including the Scrambler 1100, the Scrambler 1100 Special, and the Scrambler 1100 Sport. They all cluster under the general umbrella of naked bikes or standards, which means simplicity, versatility, and style. Power comes from an air-cooled, desmodromic 90-degree V-twin, which is stuffed inside one of Ducati’s trademark steel trellis frames. Serving the Scrambler design doctrine, the big exhausts first snake down and under the bike, then turn up inside the gull-type swingarm before jutting rearward near the seat. A small but essential electronic array helps riders control the claimed 86 hp, including selectable riding modes, traction control, and cornering ABS.

The base Scrambler 1100 features black 10-spoke wheels, a black swingarm, and a choice of yellow or black paint. For its part, the Scrambler 1100 Special substitutes wire-spoked wheels with black rims, a bright aluminum finish for the swingarm, aluminum fenders, a chromed exhaust system, a lower handlebar, and gray paintwork. And finally, the Scrambler 1100 Sport boasts Öhlins suspenders and unique Viper Black paint.

Likes: A refreshingly practical and versatile workhorse

Dislikes: High-mounted exhausts can create passenger and luggage "issues"

Verdict: The sizzle and the steak, all in one
