Meet the pinnacle of BMW’s touring prowess. (Or rather, co-pinnacle, since the K1600GTL and K1600 Grand America have identical MSRPs.) Based on the K1600GT, a highly competent tourer in its own right, the K1600GTL adds an extra helping of features for improved comfort and utility. Up front is a fuller fairing and a taller electrically adjustable windshield for a quieter cocoon of air in the cockpit. A deeply bucketed rider’s seat boosts comfort (that is, if your hindquarters fit well “in the pocket”), and the passenger’s seat is likewise thicker. Additionally, a longer pullback handlebar opens up the ergonomics. Enhancing carrying capacity, the K1600GTL has taller side cases and a standard top case to yield 31 gallons of storage volume.
Other K1600GTL standard features include an AM/FM tuner and satellite radio with USB integration, plus GPS prewiring. Beneath all of these luxurious (and quite functional) features lurks BMW’s tour de force, a 1,649cc inline-six with dual overhead camshafts, 24 valves, and a computer-controlled ride-by-wire throttle. Output is pegged at stout 160 hp, the same as in other K1600 models. Schnell!
