2024 GasGas MXC 5 Ebike Review - Everything You Need to KnowAdam Waheed

Keen to connect with all types of riders and powersports enthusiasts, GasGas offers its MXC 5 pedal-assist mountain bike. Positioned as a high-performance Class 1 ebike, the MXC 5 is designed for trail riding and all-mountain adventures. It features a lightweight aluminum frame paired with a powerful Brose SRAM powertrain and integrated battery, providing pedal assistance. Here’s everything you need to know about GasGas all-new MXC 5 ebike:

This is an all-new product from the Pierer Mobility Group branded under the recently acquired Spanish-turned-Austrian brand GasGas. It’s engineered by Pierer Mobility’s new bicycle division in Austria with a Taiwanese-built frame and final assembly in Europe. It’s powered by a 630-watt/hour battery with a SRAM-Brose motor capable of 66 lb.-ft. of torque; that’s more torque than some KTM streetbikes.

It puts power back to the rear wheel via SRAM GX electronic auto shifter with 12 speeds. The MXC 5 can be charged via a standard three-prong 120-volt charger that comes with the bicycle. It weighs in at 53.1 pounds in size large. Two other sizes are available, medium and extra large. It rolls on a “mullet” wheelset with a 29-inch diameter front wheel and a 27.5-inch diameter rear shod with Maxxis tubeless tires. This mountain bike uses WP suspension with 6.3 inches of travel upfront and 5.5 inches of travel out back with full adjustment.

It uses hydraulic disc brakes front and rear and has a dropper post seat with 6 inches of travel (around 150mm). It uses a SRAM AXS controller and you can download the SRAM AXS smartphone app so you can control power modes and the shifting profile (including fully automatic shifting). You can also select between two power modes via that button and you can shift gears electronically via the switch gear.

The MXC 5 is available at GasGas motorcycle dealerships and select ebike retailers. It retails for $8,999 and comes with a two-year warranty.
