Everything You Need to Know about the Can-Am Origin Ebike

This is what you need to know about the Can-Am Origin electric dual sport.

The Origin is an electric motorcycle introduced by BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) under its Can-Am brand, marking the brand’s return to the motorcycle segment after its departure in the late ‘80s. The Origin ($14,499) is designed as an electric dual sport bike, aimed at both on- and off-road riding. Its rugged, adventure-ready appearance is paired with advanced electric powertrain technology, offering a sustainable yet powerful alternative to traditional gas-powered motorcycles. Here’s everything you need to know about Can-Am’s Origin electric dual sport bike.

This is a bike built by Can-Am, a subsidiary of BRP out of Quebec, Canada. This vehicle is powered by a nearly 9kWh lithium-ion battery, which is water-cooled, as is the controller, the charger, and the Rotax motor, which is nestled inside the swingarm. This motor is good for upward of 50 lb.-ft. of torque. This vehicle delivers a range, says Can-Am, of 52 miles at a sustained 50 mph. The top speed is 80 mph. And you can charge this motorcycle with a J1772 traditional power plug. It charges from 20 to 80 percent in just 50 minutes (Level 2 charging), and it goes from 0 to 100 percent in 1.5 hours.

The bike weighs in at 412 pounds. It rides on a 21-inch front and 18- inch rear wheel. Look at that tasty single-sided swingarm with a KYB inverted fork. It offers 10-inch suspension travel, front and rear. There’s the direct shock that mounts between the battery and the swingarm, with spring preload, compression, and rebound damping adjustment. This vehicle is loaded with all the bells and whistles including full LED lighting and 10.25-inch touchscreen. It also offers traction control and has adjustable power modes, which allow you to tweak this vehicle to your liking. This motorcycle also includes passenger accommodations, and it carries a two-year warranty (five on the battery) and is assembled in Mexico.
