Yamaha returns its YZF-R7 middleweight sportbike to the lineup unchanged in 2025, even down to the price tag which remains $9,199. The bike will hit dealerships in December and be available in Team Yamaha Blue or Matte Raven Black.
The model dates back to 2022, when the R7 came to market as a replacement for the outgoing YZF-R6. It wasn’t a one-to-one swap, however, because the R7 takes its 689cc twin engine from the brand’s MT line to give riders a more affordable, and approachable, middleweight sportbike option than the racier inline-four-powered R6.
We gave the platform a thorough assessment at its release, testing its chops on the track, on the street, and during our morning commute. It lives up to its broad-appeal promise, with easily managed power delivery, a comfortable cockpit, decent braking and suspension performance under typical ride conditions, and a sporty look that belies its amenable nature.
It’s not a precision machine, nor is it meant to be. It’s capable and comfortable on surface streets and still offers enough character and performance to be fun on track. It’s no surprise that the R7, which is still fairly new to the scene, remains unchanged for another year.
