Due to popular feedback on the Me & My Bike: Doug Kamholz feature (Motorcyclist, February 2014) and requests to see more of his California Highway Patrol-inspired 1998 Yamaha dubbed "CHP-R1" in action, we followed up with the retired lawman who provided us with one of his favorite Facebook profile pics taken as he was dragging a knee through Turn 2 at Laguna Seca, all decked out in his custom CHP leather suit and full-face helmet. When we last talked to Doug , he was on a quest to get autographs of all seven U.S. MotoGP world champions on the right-side frame of the bike. He had only six: Kenny Roberts Sr., Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts Jr., Nicky Hayden and Kevin Schwantz. We're happy to report that Doug has recently made arrangements to meet up with Freddie Spencer and get that final seventh autograph. Once Fast Freddie's signature is in place, the CHP-R1 will be retired to a place of honor in Doug's living room.
