"On Two Wheels" is One Year Old!

Blooper Reel Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Video Series

It seems like just yesterday that the video guys clipped a mic to my leathers, pointed a pair of cameras at me, and demanded some intelligent words. Totally unprepared for a presentation, I was literally at a loss for words. I formed some eventually, but they were hardly worthy of applause. That harrowing experience was documented in Episode 2 of the newfound "On Two Wheels" show, a bi-weekely motorcycle program that joined seven other automotive programs on the Motor Trend YouTube channel, which was one of 100 channels created as part of YouTube's Original Programming initiative.

We’ve come a long way since that original episode (thank gad!) in terms of approach, plot, video technique, and subject matter. While those initial episodes primarily piggybacked on existing Motorcyclist, Sport Rider, Dirt Rider, and Super Streetbike magazine tests, we quickly realized that it was more engaging and more fun if we allowed our episodes to be a little more off the wall.

We discovered early on that we’re lousy actors, so we ditched the scripts and just let the cameras roll. Using “confessional” interviews, on-board audio, and more casual conversation between hosts has enabled us to give the show a more natural feel. The biggest difference was in our approach to themes, as coming up with stuff that we honestly enjoyed insured that the enthusiasm transferred to the episode.

Programs have covered our Class of 2012 superbike shootout, a head-to-head comparisons between the Streetfighter S and Tuono V4R, Zack's experience riding Josh Hayes' championship-winning YZF-R1, the rescue and resuscitation of a forlorn Honda MB5, a trip to Germany to ride Continental's Contidrom, and heated races on my long-term CBR250R, among many others.

This video is our 24th, marking our first full season. In the coming season, we'll continue to strive for interesting and entertaining motorcycle-centric programming. Got some ideas? You can email us at mcmail@sorc.com or post a message on Facebook. We'd love to hear from you.
