Birmingham, AL June 24, 2012**** – Cameron Beaubier has had a breakthrough weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. The 19-year-old did the proverbial double and won both AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike races aboard his #6 Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6.
It was an exciting race from beginning to end, with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions, but Cameron was not to be denied from repeating his career-first victory from yesterday, and now he has two big DSB wins in as many days.
“It feels awesome to get my first win here, then back it up with another win on the second day,” Cameron said. “I tried to save my tires as much as I could in the beginning, and I was able to pour it on towards the end of the race. I’m so happy to get this win for my team. They worked hard in this heat, and it really paid off.”
Also in the lead pack and contending for a podium spot was Cameron’s Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha teammate Tommy Hayden, who made a deft pass for third on the final lap, but he just couldn’t make it stick in the Alabama heat, and he had to settle for fourth place. Tommy is still just XX points out of third place in the Daytona SportBike Championship.
The Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team will return to racing action at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 13-15 for Round 7 of the AMA GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship. For news, results, and other team info, be sure to check out Yamaha’s Facebook page.
