Triumph Upgrades Its Classics For 2014

The defining characteristic of a classic motorcycle is that it’s fixed in time, and doesn’t ever change. While that’s true for older Triumphs, it doesn’t apply to the latest generation of Bonnevilles, T100s, Thruxtons, and Scramblers, all of which are getting upgrades for 2014.

The Bonneville is up first, with redesigned silencers for an even more Triumphant sound. The fuel-tank decal gives way to a badge, the engine and cylinder head have new cooling fins, and the oil-cooler lines are finished in black. A new seat with contrasting vinyl and improved padding, and a black grab rail as standard equipment, round out the changes. Available colors are Phantom Black, Lunar Silver, or Crystal White/Sapphire Black. MSRP is $7,889 for single colors, $8,199 for two-tones.

The 2014 T100’s Crystal White/Arum Gold paint scheme harkens back to the 1964 Bonneville, with the stylized color split continuing across the front and rear fenders. A throatier exhaust and a standard chrome grab rail and chain guard add a bit of sparkle. The T100 is also available in Jet Black/Cranberry Red; both colors have an MSRP of $9,199.

If you like your classics dark, there’s the Bonneville T100 Black, not only with Jet Black paint, but black-finished wheel rims, hubs, handlebar, shock springs, fender stays, mirrors, and grab rail. The Black also gets revised silencers, and machined details on the cooling fins. MSRP is $8,899.

The Bonneville Special Edition is a limited-production model with Jet Black/Lunar Silver paint, black livery on the tank and side covers (featuring twin hand-painted gold coach lines), and front and rear fenders painted silver with black center stripes and gold coach lines. It also comes with improved silencers, black oil-cooler lines, and new detailing on the cylinder-head fins. But wait, there’s more, like a chrome grab rail, black mirrors, and a brushed finish on the clutch, sprocket, alternator, and cam covers. Scheduled to arrive in showrooms in January 2014, the SE’s MSRP is $9,799.

The retro-racer Thruxton gets the new machined details on the cylinder-head fins, the black oil-cooler lines, and a chrome chain guard, along with a color-matched flyscreen with a center-stripe detail that joins the seat cowl. MSRP is $9,099.

Finally, the Scrambler gets the back-to-black treatment with black oil-cooler lines, handlebar, wheel rims and hubs, and rear master-cylinder reservoir cover. Other new features include an anodized bash plate and an embossed Triumph logo on the seat. Colors are Matte Pacific Blue or Lunar Silver/Diablo Red. MSRP is $9,099.
