Reports from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles Times indicate that a mass shooting occurred at the popular biker bar Cook’s Corner in Trabuco Canyon Wednesday evening. Three individuals are reported dead, including the gunman, and six are injured.
Editor’s note: The Orange County Sheriff Department has identified the gunman as John Snowling, 59. His wife was injured in the incident, but is not deceased, as was rumored earlier in the day.
The shooter is alleged to be a retired officer from the Ventura Police Department. Reporting from CBS Los Angeles says the shooter was targeting his estranged wife. The gunman’s identity and motive remain to be confirmed by officials.
During a media conference three hours after the shooting, multiple agencies gathered to brief the public. According to the briefing, calls to the OC Sheriff’s office reporting gunfire started just after 7 p.m. Minutes after the first calls were received, officers were on scene exchanging gunfire with the gunman. The gunman was killed in the exchange and multiple deputies were injured. At least one weapon was recovered after the incident.
Of the six injured victims transported from the scene to receive treatment, five had suffered gunshot wounds. Two of the six were in critical condition while four remained stable. The injured individuals are being treated at Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, according to CBS Los Angeles.
