Suzuki joins the adventure sportbike category with its 2024 GSX-S1000GX+. This fresh addition to Suzuki Motor USA’s new motorcycle lineup combines its legendary mid-2000s sportbike-like power, handling precision, and everyday practicality, making it a viable choice for motorcyclists who desire a sporty, medium-duty touring rig.
Editor’s note: we test rode the traditional sport-touring version of this vehicle during the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+ Review article and video.
Powering the GSX-S1000GX+ is Suzuki’s tried-and-true 999cc dual overhead cam (DOHC) inline-four engine. This liquid-cooled powerhouse boasts a 16-valve cylinder head, delivering 135 hp and 73 lb.-ft. of torque to the 190/50-17 Dunlop Roadsport 2 tire. Power is managed through a six-speed quickshifter-enabled transmission, paired with a wet, cable-actuated slipper clutch for fast shifts and reduced wheel hop during aggressive downshifting.
The engine drinks from a 5-gallon-capacity fuel tank. Riders can expect around 34 mpg under faster riding conditions. With a full tank, the GSX-S1000GX+ tips the scales at 511 pounds, and includes a centerstand to ease maintenance chores.
It rolls on a twin-spar aluminum frame and swingarm with Showa semi-active suspension system offering nearly six inches of travel front and back. The suspension automatically adjusts damping settings based on road and vehicle operating conditions. Rear spring preload is electronically adjustable, but fork preload changes are made the old-fashioned way, with a 5mm Allen beneath the right fork leg.
Braking is handled by triple hydraulic disc brakes, including Brembo radial-mount calipers. The always-on IMU-powered Motion Track ABS enhances safety by preventing wheel lockup under braking. Curiously the adjustable traction control is non-IMU-powered, however both wheelie control and torque control are.
The GSX-S1000GX+ is packed with advanced features for both convenience and style. Full LED lighting illuminates the road and enhances visibility, while a 6.5-inch color TFT display provides riders with essential information at a glance. From navigation to vehicle metrics, the sharp-looking display is designed for ease of use, day or night.
Adding to its practicality, the bike comes equipped with a set of hard-case luggage. Each case can hold up to 7 gallons of gear, is lockable, and can be easily removed for transport away from the motorcycle. The 2024 GSX-S1000GX+ is priced at $18,499 in the United States. It’s manufactured in Japan and comes with a one-year warranty.
