An eighth pole of the season for Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez gives him a good chance of continuing his winning run as he seeks a tenth successive victory on Sunday.

Reigning MotoGP champion Marquez on track conditions and redesign: “The new layout is good, maybe the old one was better for our bike but overall it’s better to ride. The surface is also a lot better, less bumpy and with more grip. I’ve been working hard with my rhythm on used tires, I had a little moment in FP4 because I was pushing. Hopefully it is a dry race tomorrow because I think that we can push for the victory.”
Andrea Dovisioso

Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso turned in his best lap around the resurfaced and reconfigured 2.6-mile Indy circuit towards the end of Q2 to get within 0.225s of Marquez for second position. Using a new engine this weekend Dovizioso managed his second front row start of the season following his third spot back in May at Le Mans. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was a quarter of a second off pole as he completed the front row in the third spot.

Row two is lead by Aleix Espargaro on the NGM Forward Racing in fourth with Valentino Rossi”s Movistar Yamaha next to him in fifth. Aleix’s brother Pol Espargaro on the Monster Yamaha Tech3 entry was provisionally on the front row but was eventually pushed back to sixth.

Bradley Smith qualified on the third row in ninth position but a Q2 high-side makes him a question mark for Sunday's MotoGP race.

Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) will line up on row three, provided Smith is fit to ride after a big high side at Turn 2 in the final minutes of Q2.

LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl on the redesigned Indy MotoGP track: “It’s nice and I really enjoyed riding it more than last year. The shape of the track is more flowing. Also the surface is not bad and overall they did a good job.”

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP) heads the fourth row after topping FP3 earlier in the day. Scott Redding (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) and Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team) made it through from Q1 to qualify in the 11th and 12th spots, respectively.

Leon Camier

With Hayden having undergone an operation to address the ongoing issue with his right wrist, substitute rider Leon Camier did well for the Drive M7 Aspar team, qualifying 16th from Q1 in his MotoGP debut.

Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) qualified 14th after surviving a big high side in the morning FP3 session, while Broc Parkes (Paul Bird Motorsport) walked away from a Q1 crash and will start 22nd on the grid.

Dovi in best position since 2010: “It was a perfect qualifying. I didn’t expect to go under 1’32, though for sure Marc gave me a big help. We’ve worked really well through the weekend and have been in the top five in every session.”

Jorge Lorenzo on the front row in position three: “Tomorrow in the warm-up we will see if the feeling is ok with the hard tire. During the qualifying I tried to put in a very good lap time. After the first try I was very satisfied with the lap. The second time I wanted to improve a little bit more but I came across so many riders waiting for a tow that I couldn’t ride like I did before. I went just two tenths of a second faster, but it was enough to give me this first row, which is a good position.”
