Monster Miller: Josh Hayes and Josh Herrin Go 1-2 In Utah; Yamaha Dominates AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Race

Tooele, UT May 28, 2012**** – Other than their first names, there was no Joshing about the performance that the Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team showed at Miller Motorsports Park. Two-time reigning AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes got the holeshot in the Memorial Day SuperBike race at Miller, and he led from start to finish aboard his #1 crossplane-crankshaft Yamaha YZF-R1.

Meanwhile, his teammate Josh Herrin, who is in his rookie SuperBike season, showed remarkable racecraft and steely determination in moving himself into second place twice on the final lap of the race, with his second pass being the one that stuck as he crossed the finish line and earned his best SuperBike result so far in his promising career. It was a second-place finish that will not soon be forgotten by Josh, his hard-working team, or the thrilled fans who were in attendance.

Josh Hayes, who started from the pole position, stayed well clear of the battle for second and rode his own race where he took the checkered flag with nearly an eight-second lead over the rest of the SuperBike field. He took the maximum haul of points from Miller, earning the bonus point for pole, the bonus point for leading the most laps (which turned out to be all the laps), and the points for the win. Altogether, the weekend has vaulted Josh back into the lead for his third SuperBike Championship in a row.

The Yamaha Road Racing Teams were honored to be at Miller Motorsports Park for the Memorial Day holiday, and Josh Hayes summed up the teams’ sentiments’ best. “It was a perfect Memorial Day,” he said. “Thanks to all the servicemen and women out there who support us and, hopefully, they were entertained by the show we put on under the umbrella they provide for us.”

After all the excitement of this weekend, there’s hardly time to take a breath as the Yamaha Road Racing Teams are already packed up and heading to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for this weekend’s next AMA Pro Racing round at Road America.
