[Months after KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer announced that his holding company had purchased Husqvarna from BMW, plans have been revealed that bring Husky and Husaberg together, while also severing ties with Husky’s current manufacturing facility in Biandronno, Italy.
The new company will be called Husqvarna Sportmotorcycle GmbH, based in Mattinghofen, Austria, also the home of KTM. According to the company, operations will have moved from Italy to Austria and be operational by October. In early October, Husky will announce its off-road model lineup in Sweden, followed by display at the EICMA show in Milan this November. One tantalizing prospect is the admission that new product will appear in the supermoto segment.
[Husaberg’s lineup of two- and four-stroke off-road machines lives in harmony with KTM’s own offerings, so it will be interesting to see how the addition of Husqvarna as a brand changes the landscape. Few hints were offered, except that Husky will feature “exclusive design and the latest technology” in enduro, motocross and “Sportminicycles” categories. And while there’s no official confirmation, the common belief is that the TR650 Terra and Strada models will be one-year wonders, and it’s also likely that a large portion of Husky’s catalog will be eliminated or overhauled. Nuda, we never knew ya.
The sole piece of good news for owners of current Husky models—including those heavily influenced by BMW, like the Terra and Strada—is that the new company has pledged parts and warranty backup “for the years to come.”
