Are 2026 Honda Electric Motorcycles Coming Soon?

Honda’s electric motorcycles are design heavy and production-ready.

A closer look at Honda’s new middleweight electric, dubbed the EV Fun.Honda

The Honda booth has generated a lot of buzz at EICMA this year. First there was the new forced-induction V3 engine, then updates to the company’s latest crop of middleweights, and now this: two new eye-popping all-electric concept bikes that are spearheading Honda’s entry into the two-wheeled EV space.

Dubbed the EV Fun Concept and EV Urban Concept, these two machines mark the beginning of Honda’s commitment to introduce 30 new electric motorcycles by 2030. Apart from their futuristic styling and all-electric powertrains, these are two very different machines, so let’s take a closer look at each.

Honda EV Fun Concept

Honda describes its new EV Fun Concept as the brand’s first electric sport motorcycle. While no specs have currently been released, Big Red has confirmed that the EV Fun will be comparable to a middleweight ICE motorcycle in terms of size and power, and is expected to deliver somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 miles of range on a full battery.

Figures on recharge times or battery capacity have yet to be confirmed, however Honda says the new EV Fun will leverage the same Level 2 quick-charging hardware as its current lineup of automobiles. The battery itself will be fixed in the frame (not swappable), and according to Honda, the bike has been designed to balance light weight and easy maneuverability with optimal recharging performance.

While concepts often differ significantly from production models, we can’t help but hope Honda doesn’t change a thing about the EV Fun’s outrageously clean design before it hits showrooms next year.Honda

Perhaps most exciting of all, however, is that unlike most electric concepts we’ve seen over the last few years, Honda has confirmed that the EV Fun is already scheduled to enter production. The company says it expects to have a full production version of the concept in showrooms before the end of 2025, though whether the EV Fun will make its way to the US market is unclear.

Honda EV Urban Concept

Honda’s EV Urban Concept is built for utility, but still looks damn good from every angle.Honda

As the name suggests, Honda’s second model on display, the EV Urban, is intended as the ideal city runabout. The battery-powered scooter combines slick styling with a healthy dose of utilitarian features, and looks packed to the gills with technology.

Unlike its EV Fun sibling, the EV Urban Concept is still under wraps; specific details or production plans were not shared by Honda. It did say that the EV Urban “embodies a vision of near-future mobility” however, which leads us to believe that it shouldn’t be too far behind the EV Fun as Honda’s second production EV.

Detail shots of the EV Urban suggest an electric motor at the swingarm pivot point (if not inside the swingarm), as well as a maintenance-free belt drive for ease of ownership.Honda

In a teaser video released alongside the EV Urban, Honda depicts a wealth of futuristic technology including a proximity sensor that “wakes up” the machine as its owner approaches, as well as a conversational and seemingly AI-driven dash that communicates with the rider via text, something Honda is calling its “intuitive human-machine interface.”

That’s about all Honda is sharing in terms of details at this point, but it did reveal the following concerning its future plans in the EV space.

“Honda aims to achieve carbon neutrality through all of its products and corporate activities by 2050, and to achieve carbon neutrality for all of its motorcycle products in the 2040s. Towards this goal, Honda is working to electrify its motorcycles as the mainstay of its future environmental strategy.”
