Both off-road motorcycles provide competition capability off the showroom floor as both are based on Honda’s competition-proven CRF450Rmotocrosser. They make use of the 450cc Unicam SOHC liquid-cooled single, and the same braking setup, but key differences tailor each machine to slightly different purposes.

The RX, for example, has a higher compression ratio and close-ratio, five-speed gearbox. It also comes with 13-position rebound adjustment, 15-position compression damping, and 12.2 inches travel. The rear suspension setup provides spring preload, 11-position rebound settings, six-position high- and low-speed compression damping, and 12.3 inches travel.
Honda Selectable Traction Control and HRC Launch Control come standard also. It provides an agile handling feel and more aggressive power delivery that’s perfect in race series such as WORCS and GNCC.

The X, meanwhile, features a lower compression ratio, wide-ratio six-speed gearbox, slightly less suspension travel, and slightly more stable geometry, making it ideal for trail rides and longer off-road races such as the Baja 1000, which the SLR Honda Team won in 2022 aboard the CRF450X. (Read How Honda Created the Baja 1000 | Baja Beginnings article.) It has a full lighting package standard along with a fuel mileage meter, gear-driven counterbalancer, and factory hand guards.
