NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V725000
Component(s): Exterior lighting
Potential Number of Units Affected: n/a
Manufacturer: Harley-Davidson Motor Company
THE RECALL: Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 FLS Softail motorcycles manufactured from March 25, 2013 to October 2, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured without lamp-outage detection for the front turn signals. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
WHAT COULD HAPPEN: Without the turn signal lamp outage indicator, the rider may not be aware that a front turn signal is not working. And without working front turn signals, there is an increased risk of a crash.
THE FIX: Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will correct the body control module software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in December 2014. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0618.
