Happy World Environment Day!

**WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY IS AN ANNUAL EVENT THAT AIMS TO BE THE BIGGEST AND MOST WIDELY ****CELEBRATED DAY FOR POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL  ACTION WORLDWIDE. WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY ****ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE ALL YEAR ROUND BUT  CULMINATE ON 5 JUNE EVERY YEAR, INVOLVING ****EVERYONE FROM EVERYWHERE. **

This year Brazil will host the World Environment Day promoted by UNEP every 5 June, and this year's
theme is "Green Economy: Does it include you?" This is a simple and interesting question that every
member of society should try to answer.

UNEP defines the Green Economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity,
while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a
green economy can be thought of as one that is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.

Since 1994, The United Nations  Environment Programme has been developing a "Sport and the
Environment" programme that promotes sustainable behaviour at sporting events worldwide and raises
environmental awareness across all sports.  One of the aims of this programme is to foster cooperation
among sports organisations and, through them, to get across an environmental message.

On this special occasion the FIM is pleased to launch the FIM ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADORS PROJECT
and the  NEW LOGO of the FIM International Environment Commission.  Riders  from  various  FIM  World
Championships and different countries will lend their voices to transmit environmental messages and
create awareness about environmental issues. The first FIM Environmental Ambassadors will be Spanish
riders Laia Sanz (FIM Women's Trial & Enduro World Championships) and Marc Marquez (FIM Moto2 World
Championship), who will be joined by French rider Randy De Puniet (FIM MotoGP World Championship).
Other riders from across the world will join this project in the next few weeks!

The United Nations Environment Programme, one of  the FIM's main contractual partners since 2006,
recently agreed to renew its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the FIM. This document reflects
the joint commitment of both organisations to work more closely together in the coming years.
