First TTXGP Qualifying Session on the Books

And They’re Off!

The TTXGP electric race bikes took the to Isle of Man’s famed Mountain Course for the first time ever on Wednesday, and we know this much for sure—there will be a race come Friday. Whether or not it will be a close race, however, or a fast race, remains to be seen. The top finisher in this first qualifying session was Rob Barber on the team AGNI machine, clocking an average speed of 84.819 mph for his single, 37-mile lap. This is not entirely impressive compared to John McGuiness’s the outright lap record of 130.442 mph, or even the 600cc Supersport record of 125.161 mph, but it’s literally minutes ahead of second-place qualifier Dan Kneen on the ManTTX bike (70.677 mph). American overdogs Mission Motors are currently in fourth position with an average speed of 67.043 mph, and the first of two Best Buy-sponsored Brammo bikes is in sixth at 63.242 mph. Two strongly favored teams—MotoCzysz and eROCKIT—failed to complete the qualifying lap, and try again in the next qualifying session on Thursday.
