“Almost never” answers the question “How often do you have a chance to own an actual MotoGP race bike?” At the recent RM Auction in Monaco, however, bidders had a shot at not one but two genuine Ducati Corse Desmosedici GP race bikes. And these weren’t just test mules, but documented race machines from two of the series’ biggest stars, Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner. Contrary to pre-auction speculation, Stoner’s race-winning GP10 CS1 brought the bigger number, selling for $311,600—a new world record for a Ducati. Rossi’s GP11 VR2 was a comparative bargain at just $304,360.
