Everything You Need To Know about Surfercross

Every summer the motocross and surf communities come together for the Surfercross competition.

Surfercross is a fun, invite-only Southern California competition that brings together the dirt bike and surfing community. This unique event tests athletes’ versatility, as they must excel in both motor and board sports while adapting to the challenges of each setting. The event is celebrated for its fun-loving and high-spirited atmosphere, as well as the impressive athleticism (or lack thereof, lol). Here’s everything you need to know about Surfercross.

Surfercross began in 1999. It’s the brainchild of Jeremy Albrecht, a factory race mechanic for guys like four-time AMA racing champ Jeff Emig and “The Fastest Man on the Planet,” James Stewart. Now, the whole point of Surfercross is to showcase two extremely challenging and difficult sports, motocross and surfing.

The Surfercross competition takes place over two days. Day 1 is at an off-road racetrack. Yesterday, we were at Fox Raceway in Southern California. Day 2, we trade motorcycles for surfboards here in San Clemente, California. The Surfercross competition consists of a two-person team with teammates chosen at random via drawing. Riders switch off for every lap during Moto 1 and Moto 2. Scores are tallied.

For the surf day, the same duos compete again in a typical surf format. After the end of the day, scores are tallied and winners are announced. The whole point of Surfercross is about showcasing these different sports and having a good time. Special thanks to all the sponsors, including Fast House and Maxxis Tires. We’ll see you next year.
