Can-Am is now taking preorders for the two new electric motorcycles set to join its three wheel trike lineup in 2025, the Pulse and Origin as initially reported during the Can-Am’s Electric Motorcycles for 2024 article. The Pulse will start at $13,999 while the Origin will be priced at $14,499. These new motorcycles are set to be delivered to customers starting in early 2025.
Editor’s note: Can-Am parent organization, BRP purchased class-leading (at the time) electric motorcycle manufacturer, Alta after it closed its doors (read the Alta Motors Closes Up Shop article) outlined during the BRP Acquires Select Alta Motors Assets write-up.
“Today, we are reclaiming our two-wheel heritage by bringing new excitement to the electric motorcycle industry,” José Boisjoli, president and CEO of BRP, said in a company press release. “50 years ago, Can-Am celebrated many victories with its Track ‘n Trail motorcycles, and we are bringing that pedigree back with a focus on modern electric power, connectivity and thrill. We intend to become a global leader in that space with true innovation designed to simplify the riding experience for new riders and introduce electric motorcycles to all.”
At the heart of both bikes is a new Rotax E-Power unit and a liquid-cooling system that cools the battery, charger, motor, and inverter. Can-Am promises improved range and charge time thanks to the liquid-cooled design, as well as a reduction of battery degradation. The brand promises a charge from 20 to 80 percent in 50 minutes at any Level 2 charging station and a full charge from 0 percent in an hour and a half at a Level 2 station.
In terms of performance, the Pulse can get 100 miles per charge in the city while the Origin is rated at 90 miles per charge in the city. The Pulse offers an 80 mph top sustained speed and is capable of going 0–60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The Origin offers the same top sustained speed, reaching 60 mph from zero in 4.3 seconds. The battery is an integrated, lithium-ion unit offering 8.9kWh capacity. Both bikes feature clutchless, direct-drive transmissions and reverse function. Rain, Eco, and Normal ride modes will be equipped on both bikes, with the Pulse also getting a Sport+ mode, and the Origin getting Sport, Off-Road, and Off-Road+.
The Pulse is Can-Am’s naked bike, equipped with a 41mm KYB fork and Sachs twin-tube coilover shock with preload adjustability. An up-spec Pulse ‘73 ($15,999) will also be available, complete with LED lighting, a LinQ gauge spoiler, and special-edition badging and paint.
The Origin is more tailored for adventure bike riders, with taller KYB suspension components front and rear, along with preload, compression, and rebound adjustability at the back. There will also be a ‘73 edition of the Origin, which is equipped with LED lighting, LinQ windscreen, special-edition badging, and signature paint.
Numerous add-ons will be available for each model, ranging from saddlebags to passenger seats. Both bikes also come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display with BRP Connect and Apple CarPlay.
