2025 BMW S 1000 RR Superbike Preview

BMW refines the aerodynamic efficiency of the S 1000 RR.

The 2025 BMW S 1000 RR superbike gets a moderate but notable selection of updates for the coming year, primarily focused on improving aerodynamic performance and expanding its ride mode customization options. The bike will be available during the second quarter of 2025, with pricing to be announced closer to the market release date.

Editor’s note: We last test rode this vehicle during the 2022 BMW S 1000 RR Review at Double R Fest. We also tested it in the up-spec configuration model during the 2022 BMW M 1000 RR Review articles and videos.

The 999cc inline-four engine is now Euro 5+ compliant, with no reduction in power output, so riders can continue to expect 205 hp at 13,000 rpm and 83 lb.-ft. of torque at 11,000 rpm. This output is made more effective, however, thanks to newly designed winglets that provide a sizably larger amount of downforce than the previous design. According to BMW, at 93 mph riders can expect 13 pounds of aerodynamic downforce, while at 186 mph they will get 50.9 pounds. These mark a 3.5-pound and 13.2-pound increase over the 2024 model.

BMW went further in the aerodynamics department with new brake cooling ducts in the front fender. These are meant to improve airflow around the lower fork legs and brake calipers to better dissipate heat from the brakes. The 2025 edition also comes with an asymmetrical bodywork design inspired by the first-gen RR.

The throttle is updated as well, sporting the new M Quick-Action Throttle that reduces rotation angle to 58 degrees (down from 72 degrees). This update has been seen on a number of updated BMW models, including the M 1000 RR and S 1000 R, and promises to reduce the need to adjust hand and wrist position while working the throttle.

Additionally, BMW has enhanced the electronics package available on the S 1000 RR. The base model will now come with Pro Riding Modes with Race Pro 1, 2, and 3, previously only available as an optional upgrade. The addition of this new mode option gives riders the chance to adjust DTC wheelie function, throttle response curves, and engine drag torque. Pro Modes also includes Hill Start Control Pro, which automatically activates on slopes greater or lesser than 5%. ABS has more than five levels of adjustment in the Pro Mode configuration, and ABS Pro will now feature a Slick option for race tires. Finally, Dynamic Brake Control is also part of the Pro Mode package, enhancing stability and helping to shorten overall braking distance.

“Through optimized aerodynamics featuring new winglets and newly designed fairing side panels, the new M Quick-Action Throttle, and a substantially increased standard equipment package, we have been able to significantly enhance the performance of the RR once again,” explains Sepp Mächler, S 1000 RR product manager, in a company release.

The new S 1000 RR will come in three different colors: Black Storm Metallic, Style Sport in Bluestone Metallic, or the M Package in Light White with M Motorsport graphics.
