Akrapovič Racing Line Exhaust for 2014 Yamaha FZ-09/MT-09

The anticipated popularity of the 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 (MT-09 overseas) has aftermarket companies busily preparing to meet the demand for parts that will improve both looks and performance. On that front Akrapovič has their new Racing Line full-length stainless-titanium exhaust system for the all-new naked bike that they claim will allow the 847cc cross plane triple to deliver increased levels of performance with a deep exhaust tone.

Akrapovič Product Manager Friedrich Thomas says, “The Racing Line exhaust for the Yamaha FZ-09/MT-09 required an altogether different look to the muffler system in order to retain the FZ-09/MT-09’s slim and unique style This also included the decision to use a titanium outer sleeve to complement the styling. As with all Akrapovič exhausts, this latest system gives the FZ-09/MT-09 owner increased performance within the ever tightening constraints of EC-Type approval.”

The Racing Line system is constructed from quality stainless steel with a titanium alloy outer sleeve on the muffler body. A new ‘slash-cut’ tail section has been designed to retain the narrow lines of the FZ-09/MT-09 and has a removable baffle plate featuring three stylish exit ports. Constructed in two sections for ease of fit, the front section consists of three manifold tubes that are linked by crossover tubes and precisely welded into a short collector. The muffler body and front section are connected by interference fit and secured by race specification springs. A bracket assembly utilizes the factory frame mounting points. Akrapovič replacement manifold clamps are used to mount the manifold tubes in place on the cylinder head.

Akrapovič claims that the Racing Line exhaust is considerably lighter than the stock item; and even though the exhaust increases performance and throttle response, there is no need for additional tuning providing the original Yamaha lambda sensor is retained (provision for this is provided on the collector tube). Look for a more detailed exaluation of this system on our long-term FZ-09 in a future report.

MSRP: $1,239.95
