2014 Indian Chief "First Silhouette" Tease

Legendary stripper Gypsy Rose Lee knew if you want to get the public all worked up over something, give it to ‘em slowly, a little bit at a time. If she hadn’t shuffled off the mortal feather boa in 1970, you might think she’s working for Indian Motorcycles now, because her philosophy is being employed by Indian leading up to the unveiling of the 2014 Indian Chief at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August.

First there were teases––rumors, then simple line drawings that looked like a motorcycle. Then the Thunder Stroke 111 V-twin strutted onto the stage during Daytona Bike Week, followed by a series of videos showing its internals––it’s almost as if Indian plans to debut each individual nut and bolt in a separate media event before showing off the complete motorcycle.

The new Indian Chief is the namesake of the brand’s best seller, which was first offered in 1922 and quickly became the company’s flagship model. The new Indian will be made in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and will have a suggested retail of $18,999. Inventory should be in dealer showrooms later this year. There is no truth to the rumor that the bikes will be doled out to the new owners a piece at a time.
