Overview

Take MV Agusta’s F3 800, pair it with cafe racer styling, and you get the Superveloce 800. This machine is derived heavily from its stablemate but, as we said in our First Ride, “was conceived as an elegant variant offering a more comfortable riding posture while maintaining the possibility of top speeds in the neighborhood of 150 mph (hence the name Superveloce) due to the streamlined fairing.” Unfortunately the “comfortable riding posture” didn’t make it to production; the Superveloce’s ergos are definitely biased toward the track, with low-set clip-on bars, a high seat, and high/rear-set footpegs, and on the highway or open road, that gets demanding fast. The bodywork harkens back to MV Agusta’s racing history, but contains a modern 798cc three-cylinder engine with a current-spec electronic control system equipped with a six-axis IMU and four ride modes, and rider aids like eight-level TC and rear-wheel lift-up mitigation ABS.

Now running clean enough to pass Euro 5 standards, the updated engine sports a new exhaust with revised catalyzer, internal engine updates aimed at reducing mechanical and frictional losses, and a new fuel-injection system that’s pressurized 0.5 bar higher, which improves both fuel atomization and combustion. The peak figures of 147 hp at 13,000 rpm and 65 lb.-ft. of torque at a lofty 10,100 rpm position it as the most potent middleweight triple on the market. On the chassis side, the steel trellis frame has new side plates for better longitudinal rigidity, while the rear suspension linkage has a different progression rate. The fully adjustable Sachs rear shock gets a new spring and the internal valving is altered, and the fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi inverted fork also gets new valving. Braking is handled by 320mm discs clamped by four-piston Brembo calipers up front, and a 220mm disc with two-piston Brembo caliper out back.
