Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta has signed a long-term partnership agreement with Chinese manufacturer Loncin to develop a new family of low-displacement MV Agusta motorcycles.
The agreement indicates there will be four models joining the MV Agusta family as a result of the partnership, with displacements in the 350–500cc range.
MV Agusta will design all the products and use the new models to try and open doors to newer riders, to Asian markets, and to others who prefer smaller machines. It’s part of MV’s ambition to increase global ridership and expand into new markets.
Expect to see the new range of MV Agusta models in dealerships by the end of 2021.
While the release emphasizes that MV will be the sole designer of the motorcycles, they will be built in partnership with Loncin.
The agreement also puts MV Agusta in a position to assist Loncin with its efforts to enter the high-end segment through its VOGE brand. MV is slated to develop an all-new line of motorcycles for VOGE in the middle- and large-displacement segments.
Loncin President Yong Gao offered these remarks in the release:
“The conclusion of the strategic agreement is conducive to Loncin and MV Agusta's joint response to the changes in global market demand, and to the coordinated development of both sides. Loncin will use advanced manufacturing resources and Chinese market knowledge to help MV Agusta expand its product line, and enhance product competitiveness. MV Agusta’s technology and advanced design experience of high-performance motorcycles will support Loncin’s VOGE brand in becoming the market leader of premium motorcycles in China. I am looking forward to our strategic cooperation based on the principles of mutual benefit and success.”
It's going to be very interesting to see what both sides develop in the coming years.
