Miller Motorsports Park Closing | UP TO SPEED

World Superbike and AMA Pro Racing Venue to Cease Operations in October 2015

When Larry H. Miller opened his eponymous racing facility in 2006, after an $85 million investment, he almost certainly didn’t see the world-class set of tracks and extensive group of support buildings returning to Tooele County a mere nine years later.

Miller, who died in 2009, was a successful Utah businessman who began with a partnership in a Toyota dealer and saw the building of Miller Motorsports Park as something of a playground for his four-wheeled toys.

Now, as The Deseret News is reporting, the facility will close on October 31, 2015. In a statement released today by Larry H. Miller Group of Companies owner Gail Miller, "On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all of those who have supported the track over the years, both locally and worldwide, for their enthusiasm and use of the facility." The decision was announced today that the facility will not renew its land lease.

Linda Luchetti, executive vice president of the Larry H. Miller Group, told the The Deseret News, "We were facing a land lease renewal deadline and made the decision to transfer the land, track and buildings to Tooele County. We made a significant investment in the facility over the years and tried a variety of business approaches. We had some of the best talent in the motorsports industry working to make the park viable."

According to reports, the facility will remain open for its scheduled events in 2015, the bulk of which are set to begin with a facility opening party on May 16. (A motocross event has already taken place in March.)

The MotoAmerica series is set to run June 26-28 (see AMA/FIM Superbike Schedule here). But that will be among the few marquee events at the facility that once hosted the World Superbike Championship, the American Le Mans Series, and Rolex Grand-Am.
