Kansas City, MO.- On Sunday, September 14, an estimated 5,000 motorcyclists will join the 9th Annual March Of Dimes Bikers for Babies(R) RIDE to help fight premature birth. The ride will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Kansas Speedway, Johnny Dare of 98.9 The Rock will serve as honorary chair.
Before participating in the event, riders collect contributions from family, friends and other motorcycle enthusiasts to help the March of Dimes fund vital research and programs to find the causes of prematurity. Then, they ride the 100 + mile all Kansas scenic route.
"Premature birth is a bigger problem than most people think. By riding in this event, you will support March of Dimes efforts to raise awareness of the problem and support research to save babies right here in Kansas City and across the nation," says Penny Sharp, BIKERS FOR BABIES(R) RIDE Co-Chair. Premature birth affects more than 476,000 babies in the U.S. every year and the rates are rising. Besides being the leading cause of newborn death, it can lead to serious lifelong health problems like mental retardation, blindness, chronic lung disease and cerebral palsy.
All interested riders, or if you are interested in participating but can't ride, contact the Kansas City March of Dimes office at 816.561.0175. Visit www.marchofdimeskc.org for more information. All motorcycles welcome, rain or shine!
